VW�s 111.11 kmpl, super efficient Formula XL1 car

What you are looking at is Volkswagen Formula XL1, the car which is capable of going more than 111 km on a litre of diesel. Apart from the high fuel efficiency the XL1 also boasts a ridiculously low CO2 emission figure of 24 g/km.

The XL1 is a diesel electric hybrid, with a 800cc two-cylinder TDI engine producing 48PS, supported by a 27PS (20KW) lithium-ion electric motor. And just because the XL1 is fuel efficient, you shouldn�t think that it�s a slouch. The 0-100km/h sprint comes in a decent 11.9 seconds, and the top speed is a respectable (and electronically limited) 160km/h. The XL1 is also capable of travelling up to 35km solely on electric power.

The secret behind the XL1�s fuel sipping capabilities is its lightweight construction. The car�s chassis is a carbon fibre monocoque, while the body panels are made of carbon fiber reinforced polymer (CFRP). The result of using such ultra-lightweight materials is a weight of just 795 kg.
The car will apparently make it to production, though only 100 units will be created and sold. The XL1 will be sold in markets across the world, starting from Europe, and then going to the US and China.

And if you thought that such exclusivity and environment efficiency would make the XL1 cost the sun and the moon and all the constellations, you�d be wrong. According to senior VW management, the car won�t be as expensive to produce as some other such projects in the past, as the hybrid tech is getting increasingly mainstream. Also, the cost of lightweight materials such as carbon fiber is coming down, as the usage increases in automotive and aviation applications.

Kizashi official website

Just days before the official launch of the Kizashi D-segmenter, on February 2 Maruti Suzuki have launched the car�s official website. The website shows the cars in a a 360 degree view before running an AV highlighting the virtues of the car. The AV tries hard to project the Kizashi as a premium car with sporty styling, doesn�t quite have a great impact though.

There are no specs or details on the car available on the site. All you can do is watch the AV and share the link with your friends.

While the car in the videos doesn�t have any hints of Maruti�s logo on it, with only the Suzuki logo present both at front and back, the website does have the Maruti Suzuki logo on the top left corner. We thought Suzuki would like to keep the word Maruti out for this car�s branding as much as possible, but seems like they they are not obsessed about the idea as we thought they would be.

CEC announces Lexus LFA customization program

Los Angeles-based tuner CEC has announced a new partnership with Lexus North America to create a tuning program for the Lexus LFA. Limited to just three vehicles, these unique supercars will feature a variety of enhancements created specifically for each customer. "We believe these three CEC Tuner Edition LFAs will be the most expensive and rarest of all the LFA supercars that Lexus will manufacturer and sell worldwide," said Sherif Yassa, Vice President of CEC.

Thanks to the technical innovations that went into building the LFA, the CEC upgrades will mostly be limited to aesthetics. "We looked at the LFA and what Lexus engineers had done, and knew it would be crazy to try and improve it from a performance or engineering standpoint," said Claus Ettensberger, founder of CEC. Even so, the tuner has managed to squeeze an extra 10 horsepower from the 4.8-liter V10 and trimmed shift times to .15 of a second.

While we don't have any photos of the trio of custom LFA supercars quite yet, CEC did have an LFA on display featuring their lightweight forged wheels. You can see high-res photos of the car in the gallery below.

 

2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee Launched In Australia

Chrysler Australia has launched its all-new 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee into the Australian market, following an international launch late last year.

The new Grand Cherokee represents the first new model launch under new CEO, Sergio Marchionne, and the first of a number of new Chrysler Group models destined for Australia in the next two years.

Here, the new Grand Cherokee will kick off with the entry-level V6-powered Laredo, priced from $45,000, followed by V6 and V8 versions of the Limited and the range-topping $69,500 V8-powered Overland.

At the famous famous team's Maranello headquarters ached of a track debut at nearby fiorano, the wraps came off the f150 a tribute to italian unification and featuring an italian flag on the reaward facing rear wing.

One front angle of the car reminded strongly of last year's championship winning red bull, but the rear of the car showed push-road suspension - unlike red bull's pull-rod- has been retained.
