First I will donate. And then I will try to get one time donations from my frineds and colleages (gc, citizens and non immigrants). Is that ok? Do you want me to request them to donate directly to IV or I can do the collection and donate to IV on behalf my name or whichever is possible? I am not sure whether they are helpful on advocacy efforts.

Company (Fortune 500) is currently interviewing the candidates and I am hoping the lawyer will be able to build up good case to reject the applicants.
Does anyone of you have information as to how many applicants were applied during your recruitment process? So I will be able to get an idea of that I am not in a exceptional situation.
I would appreciate all your comments.

By the way, is there anywhere in USCIS that mention about I-94 and pending I-485?

Please appoligize if I am posting it in worng thread. And please do not delete this thread - Admins
I am using AC21 and moving to a new employer and the new employer does not have group insurance. He suggested to look out for your own insurance.
And I am looking for a family insurance fore me, my wife and infant kid.
Can you please let me know the best way or best insurance to take for a family for all of us (including maternity).
Gurus, please suggest.

I'm applying to UGA and Georiga Tech as of now, among other colleges, but those are the only ones with the in state/ out of state issue..
My father said he will be getting his 485 receipt soon.. maybe in a couple months time.. would having that qualify me any better?
I am planning to call them on wednesday as they are only open till 5 and I have school..

I don't know how much an ad in Rollcall is, but wouldn't it be possible to have ongoing ads to keep awareness level up? Especially if lawmakers read the publication. I would help to pay for an ad.

the response i got is "send a letter", "he is very busy", "we know your situation". i said i would like to represent a group of immigrants, same answer - "this issue has been taken up by the congress".
"sahab ghar pe nahin hain" attitude.
We are mobilizing law maker meets through State chapters, do please make it to the NJ meet and we can discuss things in detail

well i guess here in oklahoma were more simple than up there in new jersey as im sure most people here understand what i mean about a pickup up truck not only serving a purpose as a tool but also as a source of fun ie going out and just gettin it muddy. now please dont think im saying you should go out and get your leica muddy lol. seriously though dont think im talking bad about this particular camera cuz im deffinately not. i know that its an awsome camera. my only question is why dont more pros use leica brand cameras. the ones i see in magazines seem to be small relative to even the smallest slr camera. also the lens that they have mounted on them also seems small in size. Now this is only my opinion but my conclusion is that most feel they are to small in size to use in the studio and be taken seriously. please correct my assumption though if its wrong. I do see the value this camera would have for someone traveling and getting beutifull pictures without being cumbersome.

The new H-1B approval has a start date of Nov 1, 2008. Can one go on say Oct 15, and enter the US with a new visa before Nov 1st?
Current status is H-1B, expiring on Oct 31, 2008.

Let's say I switch to another employer using AC21 while waiting for I-485 approval. Then, I-485 is denied due to a simple reason like insufficient funds. Do I have to go through the GC process all over again, or can I just fix the problem and re-file I-485 using the old priority date?

I dont see a big problem , yes there is a problem because you lost the job . Here is my adivce there are 2 things you should be most woried about , your financial condition and health insurance(very important as your wife is pregnant).
About your job and your status , you are ok as long as you find a new job and as your are open all over US , you can find one easily.
Assuming that you and your wife are currently covered by the insurance from your current work place, since you lost the job, your wife can enroll your family in her company's insurance plan.
Spouse losing insurance is considered a significant life event, and can be used to change one's insurance coverage selection with their employer.
Update your resume. Activate all contacts in your network and spread the word that you are out of job and looking for one.
Try not to show your concerns in front of your wife. If you look worried, she might worry also. Her psychological thought process could have an effect on your baby.

I really doubt anything will happen in immigration whether legal or illegal for 2 years. History shows immigration policy was restrictive when unemployment is high. It is not for discouraging any attempts but real situation now. Even business is not that much aggressive. During Lame Duck Session I saw IV was only one lobbying to attach Visa Recapture.
But as usual CIR may be introduced including Eb reform in Feb. Lawyers site will get attention by their big analysis. IV Forum members will discuss again who is left out in the bill. Finally it will sit on Judiciary commitee and expire in December.
But there is a belief that EB reform has strong support in congress. But if that is the case why any piecemeal bill is not coming out of Judiciary commitee for the past few years? Only reason told was everything waiting for CIR. The setback of Dream Bill shows that even Piecemeal Bill is also very difficult. Probably Still IV might have expressed optimistic view in Donor Forum about 2011. But for 2011 and 2012 " Hope for best and Prepare for worst'

2) From our standpoint, what we need to do doesnt change. its clear that meeting lawmaker offices and estabilishing a rapport with them is the key. talk about the key IV provisions (part of advocacy pack..contact starsun for material) so they are aware of our plight. Then when pro-EB bill comes up, push the lawmaker to support it. during lawmaker meetings we should request them to commit to sponsor an EB bill. this is better than trying to call or meet lawmaker at the minute when bill is almost up for debate or vote. we have try to help them take or change their stance much before that stage.
3) Do not get discouraged by standard email responses..no one at the lawmaker office is waiting to specifically respond to our email (which is among hundreds they get everyday). initial email is only stepping stone to a follow-up meeting which is important.
4) If local state chapter is not active..take up the initiative and start messages on the yahoogroup/googlegroup most state chapters have (start one if you do not find one created)
5) Through the state chapter, create 5-10 groups of 2 people each and distribute the various congressional districts among these groups to meet with lawmaker offices. Schedule an appointment and contact starsun or other senior members for meeting materials. Do this as frequently as possible and share feedback with IV team. These meetings can focus on overall IV/EB agenda and when bill comes up, it can be a bill-specific meeting.
